Plan B - She Said
In one of the most radical U-turns in recent musical history, rapper Plan B (also known as Londoner Ben Drew) is back with a new concept album about a soul singer wrongly imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Taken from this LP (‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks’ released April 12) this is a fine slice of Amy Winehouse style UK soul, and about as far away from the hip-hop descriptions of murder, drugs and underage sex that were portrayed on his 2006 debut. Showing off a honed and soulful voice, it’s a shame he’s kept this talent to himself for so long. I for one am certainly looking forward to what the new album can bring, merging as it has the verbal poetry of The Streets with a seemingly new direction.
